Finding the Perfect Bedroom Dresser

The dresser for the bedroom as an essential piece of furniture has been much in demand for centuries. Traditionally, a gentleman's dresser for his bedroom was made of oak or mahogany, usually with two top drawers for stockings, gloves, cravats handkerchiefs and other accouterments. Designing With Furniture in Limited Space

Those who are not so blessed with ample home space may have to practice a little creativity when designing it. One mistake many people make is shopping for furniture only on the basis of what they find attractive in the furniture shop, whether online or off. Sometimes, it is very easy to give in to the lure of wonderfully crafted pieces. Different colors, shapes and designs will have a way of distorting our perception of the realities surrounding our planned purchase. But it's important to remember that with little space to put the furniture in, there could be more details that need to be addressed as to the choice of furniture to buy.

Space dynamics require certain proportions of furniture against the space it goes into. For example, a king size bed may physically fit a small bedroom, but that doesn't mean it's a good fit altogether. Aside from leaving very little room for the dweller to move about, furniture too large can also be very uncomfortable to look at, if not, at all, a reflection of the owner's poor taste. Very often, furniture looks fantastic on a virtual or traditional store window yet absolutely disastrous when brought home where it just doesn't jive with everything else.

Hence, when shopping for furniture, it is important to look at the pieces not as separate items but as one with the space it will soon occupy. Even with so many pieces of clothing, shoes and other personal effects, there is a way of maintain order in the bedroom.

Here are some tips in maintaining a clutter free bedroom:

1. The bed is for rest and sleep. Your clothes have no business lying on the bed for days. Nor are other items supposed to be parked there. A bed full of stuff is uninviting. You want your bed to call to you and be comfortable for you. Remember, you need sleep, your things don't.

2. Is there a monster under the bed? Not the scary or the cute kind of monster though. But it's a monster mess that's under the bed. If your bed has dead space under it, avoid the urge to fill it. However, if you really need to use the space, at the very least just put a few storage boxes. Unless your comforter can reach the bottom of the floor, choose storage boxes that have interesting patterns or colors. This way, the storage boxes become part of the decor.

3. One body, too many outfits. Your clothes probably occupy the most part of your bedroom closet. If your clothes are all wrinkled whenever you retrieve them from the closet, you know you have too many of them. Your clothes should be able to breathe and not be crammed in, like pickles in a jar.

Classify your clothes:

Never worn and haven't been worn for ages and those that can no longer fit. These clothes have to be given away to charity, a family member or a friend. You can even sell some of them for extra cash.

Might still be useful. Do not hang this type of clothing. Keep them in a storage box. If you still haven't worn them after 6 months, then maybe they should go, too.

Of course, another reason Jan chooses unfinished oak furniture is because she likes to do everything herself. In this case, it means she gets to finish the wood.

If you're looking to buy unfinished oak furniture, there are some things to keep in mind. The first is that there are basically two types of oak that are used in furniture-making, those being white oak and red oak.

As you've probably guessed, red oak is the darker of the two. White oak, while being lighter, is also a bit more durable than the red. Both, however, are excellent for finishing yourself and, if done correctly, can produce stunning pieces of furniture.

Although she started out just trying to furnish her own home, her new-found hobby has turned into quite a money maker for her.
