How to Deal With Bedroom Clutter

Your bedroom is your sanctuary from all the hustle and bustle of daily life. As soon as you enter your bedroom, a feeling of serenity and relaxation should envelope you. Experts say that you shouldn't have a television set in the bedroom to maintain calm. Work related items including laptops are also no-no's. Once you are in your bedroom, you should declutter your mind and rest your spirit. But wait, how can you achieve tranquility when there is clutter in the bedroom?

Whether your bedroom is big, medium or small, there is no excuse to leave it cluttered. Some people use limited space as an excuse for a messy bedroom. However, there are individuals with large bedrooms and yet there always seems to be a garage sale going on! Even with so many pieces of clothing, shoes and other personal effects, there is a way of maintain order in the bedroom.

Here are some tips in maintaining a clutter free bedroom:

1. The bed is for rest and sleep. Your clothes have no business lying on the bed for days. Nor are other items supposed to be parked there. A bed full of stuff is uninviting. You want your bed to call to you and be comfortable for you. Remember, you need sleep, your things don't.

2. Is there a monster under the bed? Not the scary or the cute kind of monster though. But it's a monster mess that's under the bed. If your bed has dead space under it, avoid the urge to fill it. However, if you really need to use the space, at the very least just put a few storage boxes. Unless your comforter can reach the bottom of the floor, choose storage boxes that have interesting patterns or colors. This way, the storage boxes become part of the decor.

3. One body, too many outfits. Your clothes probably occupy the most part of your bedroom closet. If your clothes are all wrinkled whenever you retrieve them from the closet, you know you have too many of them. Your clothes should be able to breathe and not be crammed in, like pickles in a jar.

Classify your clothes:

Never worn and haven't been worn for ages and those that can no longer fit. These clothes have to be given away to charity, a family member or a friend. You can even sell some of them for extra cash.

Might still be useful. Do not hang this type of clothing. Keep them in a storage box. If you still haven't worn them after 6 months, then maybe they should go, too.

Regularly worn. With the remaining clothes that you swear you wear regularly, you can now organize these according to type (skirts, pants, shirts, etc.) and color.

Together with the clothes, you have shoes. If you are a regular Imelda Marcos, well, you may have to build a dedicated shoe museum. Otherwise, using the same technique in classifying your clothes, sort and organize your shoes.

4. Other tips and tricks: If you have space at the bottom and at the top of your closet, keep it neat. Use storage boxes to house your other accessories and personal effects. Consider buying a bedroom closet organizer one of these units will go a long ways toward decluttering your bedroom. Keep a laundry basket in your bedroom or in the adjacent bathroom so clothes are not strewn all over the place. For wardrobe or dresser drawers, make sure the contents are organized and clutter free as well. The top of night tables, dressers and shelves should not be full of knick knacks, perfume bottles, grooming accessories and other items. Decorate table tops with one or two favorite objects only.

In this busy world, you need a place where you can find inner calm. After a hard day's work, few things are better than coming home and resting in a bedroom that is clutter free. With a little bit of organization and a lot of resolve, you can have a real sanctuary in your home. Take it easy, relax and catch a few ZZZ's in your clutter free bedroom.
